Hello Everyone!

Thank you to everyone who came to last night's Christmas dinner/party @ The Cross Keys and for the lovely gifts and card - it was very much appreciated by both of us.  We all had a great evening including being treated to a Welsh carol beautifully sung by Enid and Mari!

It is of course the time of year to wish you all and your families a wonderful Christmas and New Year - so it's "Good night from him and good night from me!!" - thank you one and all for the support over the last 4 years - the Club is so good because of YOU so we hope that you will give more of the same to Joe in the coming years (not forgetting Maureen when she returns from her "Round the World Cruise"!

The first New Year session will be on 9th January.

If you can't wait that long don't forget Dave @ The Oak Hendre has a club night on Monday 23rd December and The Football Club @ Rhyl has its final session on Friday 20th December.

Cheers

John & Ros

Our series of Guest Nights for 2013 came to a wonderful end with a tremendous performance from Ken Nicol who not only amazed us with his guitar technique but made us laugh with his humourous songs and repartee, doubling up on the mandolin and playing various guitar instrumentals at breakneck speed.  As one of the audience remarked - what a wonderful all round entertainer he is!  For the first time since September 2012, as it was our final Guest Night before "Retiring" ,John Ryder opened the proceedings to an appreciative audience.
The evening was made even more special because Phil Jones, the Club's oldest  member and one of the original supporters at the start of the Club some 17 years ago, was 81 so we sang and had cake!!  To top it all off Campbell and Llinos Finnie came, the original founders of the Club, as they are long time fans of Ken's. It was great to catch up with them.
Thanks to everyone who has supported us on all our Guest Nights this year.
John & Ros

What a terrific evening we had last Thursday, in the hands of singer/songwriter Anthony John Clarke. And as if his melodic, gentle vocals and his impeccable guitar style was not enough, Anthony's cheeky Irish humour kept the capacity audience well and truly entertained.

Cheers.

31st October 2013

Please Welcome :

Anthony John Clarke
Irish singer songwriter

He has lived for many years on Merseyside where he has filled halls, clubs and festivals wherever he has appeared.  His gentle soothing modern folk is complimented by his skill as a raconteur, with his chat between songs an equally important part of his act. He may possible bring  his friend Elizabeth, who accompanies on keyboard and backing vocals.

Phil Townson will be the opening act for the evening.

Price £5 with normal entry details 8 for 8.30 etc.

An absolute blinder of a night

An absolute blinder of a night at the club opened by Phil Townson, who returned after a long break, with some self-penned songs about his travels.

Next up was John Williams - no, not THAT John Williams... This John Williams hails from the Wirral and treated us to a three number set that included Mark Knofler's "Romeo" played on a cello mandolin. Brilliant stuff!

This took us up to the highlight of the evening - a 45 minute Spotlight performance by Dawn and Alan with Dawn's exquisite vocals accompanied by Alan's guitar playing. Their own arrangement of "Over the Rainbow" in the style of Eva Cassidy and Carol King's "Tonight you're Mine" were just two of the beautiful numbers that kept us enthralled throughout their set.

Joe Lyon opened the second half of the evening, followed by Richard accompanied by Tom Degney on mandolin and John on Bass both of whom I managed to hijack to back me on one of my numbers too!

The evening was drawn to a close with an extended spot by Mick, Bryn and John, better known as Raven, during which there was even dancing in the aisles (I kid you not!). The most fun you'll ever get for a pound!

Best wishes.

Plus............

The annual Xmas dinner/party will be on Thursday 12th December and will be £18 for 3 courses and coffee/tea - last year was a resounding success and we decamped downstairs to the dining room and it was really cosy, however, the down side is that we are more restricted to numbers, so you need to book early to ensure a seat.  Can you let us know by 7th November at the latest.
Look forward to seeing you soon.
Cheers
Ros & John

Hi Everyone!

Following another great night  made extra special because it was Enid's "Special" birthday, next week we have a Showcase evening with "Leo & Harvey" a very young duo who have apppeared at Rhyl Folk Club recently and went down very well - so we hope you will all be able to make it.  As usual on these evenings it is a £1 entrance with raffle ticket and you can still bring instruments as there will be time ( they will be on for approx 30-40 minutes)

Here's a super photo of Enid & Phil taken by our Dutch friend Roselie who is here on holiday staying with J & R.

Thank you to all there last night - it was buzzing!!
